Artist Statement

The form of the human body is the key focus of my studio practice.  The body is something that is visually appealing to me in its vulnerability and fragility that is at the same time resilient.  Although I have been mainly using graphite pencil and water color paint to create each piece, I am also currently experimenting with different paper and painting materials to better convey my ideas.  Instead of trying to create the ideal body, I like the lines to change the body shape as a whole.  My style has become more about the texture of the line work, leaving the lines more sketch-like, and having an almost unfinished appearance.  I employ layered and loose lines to change the shape of the body in an attempt to capture a moment that is intimate and yet elusive that shows a glimpse of one’s naked vulnerability.  With this work I want to delve into one’s intimate space.  Having that closeness to the body and exploring its dwellings.
